Non-consequential-ism: Deontology
Duties must be followed regardless of the consequences of the action
Good will
Looks at the intentions or motives behind a decision rather than the outcomes
Free-will
A choice is right if it conforms with the moral norms that derive not from religion but from human reasoning capacity, logic or conscience
Moral Autonomy a.k.a “Self-rule”
The ability to decide for yourself what is right or wrong.
Categorical Imperative
Act only according to that maxim/rule whereby you can at the same time, will that it should become universal law
Commands that every rule you act on must be such that you are willing to make if the case that everyone always act on the maxim/rule when in a similar situation.
Immanuel Kant
Argues that a person is good or bad depending on the motivation of their actions and not of the goodness of the consequences of those actions.
Formula of Humanity
Humanity and human life/reason must be valued not as a tool but in and for itself. An action is good so far as it promotes the values of humanity.
