Describe the steps required to try in a complete denture

A

Check the lab work for damage, if it is what you asked for (mould, shade, have special instructions been followed etc)

Is the denture base stable with smooth rounded edges and proper extension into sulcus

Occlusion correct along with pin on table of articulator and teeth set over the ridge (anterior lower) and buccal to ridge on upper anterior?

Post dam cut?

When is it necessary to do a re try rather than insertion after a try in visit

What try in checklist is there?

A

If any factors are unsuitable in the denture try in stage and can’t be sorted by the lab prior to finish or chairside.

Retention and stability,

Base extension,

LIMBO - lip support, incisal level, midline, buccal corridor, occlusal planes,

Position of teeth vs soft tissues

FWS

RCP

Speech (count 60-70 to test fricatives)

Aesthetics

Check all surfaces for blobs or sharp areas or porosity

How would you review a complete denture?

A

1-2 weeks after insertion

Get story from patient - c/o

Aesthetics and speech

Function and mastication

Recheck FWS

Any other issues such as ulceration or redness

Relate findings to story

What common complications may present at review? How would these be managed?

A

Ulceration use PIP to determine high pressure areas and adjust

Denture may need polishing or large adjustments

Recall again if large issues needed fixing
