complete denture therapy is not
a definitive treatment
the major etiological factor:
the presence of the dentures
solution to residual ridge resorption:
overdenture- tooth and implant prostheses
crest of ridge: occlusion
vestibule: overextended/sharp borders
ulcers
hard palate: asymptomatic: constant wearing/ill fitting. CANDIDA present
treatment: remove dentures, reline/rebase, nystatin
IPH
usually see poor fitting dentures and abused tissues. Decreased OVD and candida (in red)
angular cheilitis
sore mouth) redness and burning, absent signs, consider lack of interocclusal space or clenching
stomatitis
mobile tissue- FOLDS in tissue- flange of ill-fitting denture- sharp and unpolished
facial and buccal anterior area of mouth
Treat: shorter borders, often surgery, reline/rebase/remake
fibrous hyperplasia/epulis fissuratum
fungal infection(yeast)
3 presentations with HIV: angular cheilitis, erythematous candidiasis, pseudomembranous candidas
candida
