dentine and enamel bonding Flashcards
why are bonding systems used?
and when may they be used?
decrease micro-leakage
decrease sound tissue removal
application of orthodontic brackets
treat tooth defects and anatomy imperfections
application of bridges
how does dentine bonding differ from enamel bonding?
enamel bonding is simpler as it is more inorganic - engage microporosities
dentine is tougher to bond to due to it being more organic
- also pulpal risk
- smear layer removal or incorporation needed
wets dentine and widens tubules for resin tags
what is acid etch? what does it do? p/c?
30-40% phosphoric acid applied to enamel and dentine that creates 10-15um microporosities to facilitate bonding
cons include enamel and fluoride loss and increased tooth porosity
what does an all in one etch and bond consist of?
etchant
hydrophilic primer
adhesive
how does an all in one etch and prime work?
etchant corrodes hydroxyapatite crystals and removes smear layer after a 3in1 has been sprayed post use.
hydrophilic primer attracts water out of dentinal tubules to allow for deeper composite tag penetration
an adhesive that creates a hybrid later on the floor of the cavity.
