Abcess
Inflammation associated with tissue destruction
A localized collection of pus in tissues of the body, often accompanied by swelling and inflammation
Abutment
A tooth or implant used to support a prosthesis

Acid Etching
Use of an acidic chemical to prepare the tooth enamel for bonding
A technique used in dentistry to create a rough surface on a tooth for bonding dental materials
Adhesive
Any substance or material to assist in returning tissue to health that joins or creates close adherence of two or more surfaces
A material that bonds two surfaces together, often used in dental restorations
Alveoplasty
Surgical procedure for recontouring bone structures, usually in preparation for denture or partial
Reshaping of the jawbone to create a smooth, even ridge for denture placement
Amalgam
A silver filling used for restorations
A common dental filling material composed of a mixture of silver, mercury, tin, and copper
Anterior
A front tooth, canine to canine upper 6-11, lower 22-27
Refers to the front teeth in the upper and lower jaws, including the incisors and canines

Pertaining to the symmetrical right and left sides of the mouth, separated by the midline
Refers to structures or conditions that occur on both sides of the body
Biopsy
Process of removing tissue for evaluation
Surgical removal of a small piece of tissue for examination under a microscope
Bitewing x-ray
Shows in between the teeth, usually between bicuspids and molars and the distal of the canine in the arch
A type of dental X-ray that shows the upper and lower teeth in a single view
