Abrasion
Tooth wear caused by forces other than chewing such as holding objects between teeth or improper brushing.
Abutment
A tooth (or implant) that supports a dental prosthesis
General Anesthesia
Treatment with medication to make you completely unconscious
Intravenous Sedation/Analgesia
a procedure that uses drugs administered through an IV to reduce anxiety and pain during a medical procedure.
Local Anesthesia
The loss of pain sensation over a specific area of the anatomy without loss of conciousness
Non-Intravenous Conscious Sedation
a safe and comfortable way to help patients relax during medical or dental procedures without the use of an IV.
Regional Anesthesia
A term used to local anesthesia
Apicoectomy
Removal of the tip of the tooth root
Arch
Referring to upper or lower denture
Basic Cleaning
Routine cleaning for a normal amount of plaque buildup
Bicuspid
A premolar tooth with two cusps
Bilateral
Occurring on, or pertaining, to both right and left sides
Biopsy
a surgical procedure that involves removing a small tissue sample from the mouth to examine for disease
Bleaching
Cosmetic dental procedure that whitens the teeth using a bleaching solution
Bonding
a cosmetic dentistry procedure that uses a tooth-colored resin to repair or improve the appearance of teeth
Calculus
a hard substance made of mineralized material adhering to crowns or roots of teeth
Caries
is a disease that occurs when bacteria in the mouth produce acids that damage the hard tissues of the teeth (tooth decay or cavities)
Cavity
Decay in the tooth also known as carious lesion
Cementum
Hard connective tissue covering the tooth root
Composite
restore your tooth’s integrity after enduring damage from cavities, injuries, or teeth grinding. (resin and quartz particles)
Crown
a tooth-shaped cap that restores a decayed, broken, weak or worn-down tooth.
Anatomical Crown
The top portion of your teeth is covered in enamel, including parts covered by your gums.
