16
Q

dental dam punch

A

used to create holes in the dam to expose the teeth that need to isolated

17
Q

stylus

A

sharp area on the working end that makes the holes

18
Q

punch plate

A

area where stylus punches on to

is a rotary platform that has 5 or 6 different size holes related to size of tooth

19
Q

what does the whole size on the punch plate indicate (5)

A

1) mandibular anterior
2) maxillary anterior
3) premolar
4) molar
5) clamped tooth

20
Q

dental dam stamp and template

A

arms and inkpad used to mark the dam with predetermined markings for the average adult and child

note: only effective if the mouth is “perfect”

21
Q

dental dam forceps

A

used to place and remove the clamp

22
Q

rubber dam clamps

A

designed to hold the dam secure near the operative tooth

23
Q

what determines the rubber dam clamps used

A

size and shape of the tooth

24
Q

3 parts of a dental dam clamp

A

bow
jaws
winged clamps

25
Q

bow on a dental dam clamp

A

the rounded portion of the clamp that extends through the dam in the distal

26
Q

jaws on a dental dam clamp

A

encircle the tooth shaped into 4 prongs, all 4 prongs must be secure

27
Q

winged dental dam clamps

A

designed with extra extensions to help retain

28
Q

5 types of dental dam clamps

A
  • subgingival clamps: partial eruption
  • wingless clamp
  • cervical clamp: anterior teeth
  • pediactric clamp: peds patients
  • winged clamp: extra support for right space
29
Q

two types of dental dam placement technique

A

one-step method
two-step method

30
Q

one step method dental dam placement technique

A

dam and clamp placed at the same time

31
Q

two step method dental dam placement technique

A

clamp places first, then dental dam material is stretched over it

32
Q

3 dental dam accessories

A

stabilizing cords (aka wedjets)
ligature
dental dam napkins

33
Q

ligatures on clamps

A

dental floss must be attached to the bow of the clamp usually wrapped around the whole tooth

34
Q

why should the ligature wrap around the whole clamp

A

so if it snaps in half we can retrieve it or attempt to hold it together

35
Q

stabilizing cord

A

used as an alternative to to use of a second clamp

available in 3 sizes (thicknesses)

cord stretches between last anterior tooth to anchor

36
Q

how many inches from the top should the maxillary be punched

A

1 inch

37
Q

how many inches from the bottom should the mandibular be punched

A

2 inches from the bottom

38
Q

factors to consider when placing dental dam

A
  • hole size
  • anterior minimum 3 teeth
  • posterior 1tooth
  • curve of arch (spacing, stretching, bunching)
39
Q

troubles with hole size and spacing on a dental dam

A
  • too big: dam won’t fit, leakage occurs
  • too small: dam will be hard to get over teeth
  • too close: dam may stretch and tear leakage occurs
  • too far: bunching occurs, block vision or block instrumentation
