Dental Adhesives Flashcards
1
Q
Dental Etch
A
- the acid itself is usually a 35% phosphoric acid gel that is colored to make it visible on a tooth. Etching of dental enamel with acid removes the smear layer and opens enamel tubules.
2
Q
Total etch
A
- placed on all surfaces of enamel and dentin layers
- best used when large amount of bonding material is being placed and retention may be an issue.
- If prep of the tooth is anticipated not to be deep or near the pulp portion, a total etch is most efficient
3
Q
Selective etch
A
- applied only to the enamel surface
- if dentist thinks the acid gel might cause sensitivity in deep areas of the tooth, they might use this technique
4
Q
Self etch
A
- acid etch material and bond material are actually combined and layered onto the tooth in a single step. Very effective for a tooth that is expected to easily retain the restoration
5
Q
Self etch
A
- acid etch material and bond material are actually combined and layered onto the tooth in a single step. Very effective for a tooth that is expected to easily retain the restoration
6
Q
Generations 1-7, dentin bond in MPa
A
1st generation: 1-3
2nd generation: 2-8
3rd generation: 8-15
4th generation: 17-25
5th generation: 20-24
6th generation: 17-22
7th generation: 23-30
*17 MPa is the minimum required for successful adhesion to tooth structure
