density of a material (Required Practical) Flashcards
1
Q
what is a density of a material
A
mass for a given volume
2
Q
what is the equation to work out density
A
density = mass
——
volume
density=kg/m cubed
mass= kg
volume=m cubed
3
Q
how do you determine the densities of regular solid objects.
A
- use a balance and find the mass of the object
- then find out the volume of the object
- then to work out density do mass divided by volume
4.
4
Q
what is the difference between a irregular and regular shape
A
regular shaped can be easily measured using a ruler while irregular cant
5
Q
how do you determine the densities of irregular solid objects.
A
- find the mass of the object using a balance
- fill a eureka can with water
- put the object in the water
- This will cause water to be displaced and low out of the can through the spout.
- measure the volume of the displaced water and use that volume in the formula to work out density
- the formula for density is mass / volume
