Density and pressure Flashcards
What is denser salt water or fresh water?
Saltwater
What is density?
It is a measure or how much stuff there is inside of an object.
Who symbol is given to density and what is density measured in?
Rho and kgm^-3.
The greater the pressure……..
The greater the force per unit area.
What does pressure equal?
F/A = Force/Area
What are the units for pressure? (2)
Nm^-2 or Pa
What roughly is atmospheric pressure?
100,000Pa
What will a diver feel the deeper they descend into the sea?
They will feel more pressure and there is more stuff above them.
What would net force on the submarine be if it was at constant depth?
0
What is a fluid?
A substance that flows, including liquids and gases.
What does upthrust depend on?
The volume of the object
What does upthrust not depend on?
The mass of the object
Wht does displaced mean?
Moved out of the way
What doe the volume of water displaced equal?
The volume of the object
If an object is half submerged in water what will the value of the water displaced?
It’s volume divided by 2.
Define Archemedies principle.
The upthrust exereted on a body immersed in a fluid, whether fully or partially submerged, is equal to the weight of the fluid the body displaces.
The larger the volume……..
The larger the displaced fluid.
When does upthrust increase?
When the weight of one fluid is greater than another, therfore upthrust depends on the density of a fluid.
Where on a submarine has the greatest pressure?
At the bottom.
When will a submarine rise?
When the density of the sbumarine is less than the desnity of the displaced fluid.
How will a submarine remain at constant depth?
When the density of the subarine is equal to the density of the displaced fluid.
Define Upthrust.
The upward buoyant force exterted on a n object immersed in fluid due to the pressure difference of a fluid at the top and bottom of the body, equal in maginitide to the weight of displaced fluid.
