Density Flashcards
What are the units for density?
Either g/cm3 or kg/m3
What equation links pressure, force and area?
Pressure = Force/Area
What are the units used for pressure?
Pressure is measured in N/m2 or Pascals (Pa). Be careful that 1N/cm2 is not equal to 1Pa
In what direction does pressure in fluids act?
All directions
How does the pressure change throughout a fluid?
The pressure increases with depth, and it also increases with the density of the fluid.
Is pressure in a fluid dependent on its surface area?
No
What equation do we use to find the pressure of a fluid?
Pressure = Density x Gravity x Depth
How do we find the density of a regular shaped block?
We weigh the block, and then we find the volume, before doing the equation to find the density.
How do we calculate the density of an irregular shaped block?
We weigh the block, and then we put it into a jug of water (the displaced volume of water is the volume of the object) before calculating the density using the equation.
What equation links density, mass and volume?
Density = Mass/Volume
