density Flashcards
what does density of a substance mean
its defined as mass per unit volume
equation for density
P= m/v
Density= Mass/Volume
units for density
kg/m³ + g/cm³
How to calculate density of A regular object
To calculate the density you need to calculate the mass and volume of the object. To measure mass, place the object on a top pan balance and read of the mass. The volume of a regular shape can be done by direct measurement. Measure the width length and height of the Metal cube using a ruler and multiply all of it together in grams or centimetre cubed. As density = mass/ volume , divide the findings for the mass by volume to get the density in g/cm cubed or kg/meter cubed.
Calculate the density of an irregular object
Density is calculated as Mass/Volume So to find the mass , measure it on a Mass balance to get the readings in kg or g. To find the volume immerse the object in a Eureka can and the water that is displaced into the measuring cylinder is the volume . Now divide the readings for the mass by the volume to get the density
