More than 75%of the fall of the death rate between the mid19c and 1970s was due to the fall in deaths from infection. This was due to the discovery of antibiotics and their dispensation through the NHS.

A

Due to improved nutrition, hygiene and general public health rather than advances in medicine. Diseases such as Polio were already on the decline before the introduction of immunisation. Healthier life styles have helped people become less exposed to certain risks. eg Clean air act of 1956.
