Why is there an increase in life expectancy
A
Ageing population, changes to households e.g. beanpole, burden on women to care for elderly relatives, ‘pensions timebomb’, free childcare and the ‘grey pound’.

Why is there a decline in birth rate
A
This means the average age of the population is rising, fewer schools and child health services may be needed. Significant effect on the dependency ratio. Women have greater flexibility and choice over careers.

Increase in net migration
A
‘global families’, cultural hybridization, greater diversity, moral panics which affect policy.
