Demographics Review Flashcards
What are four things we measure to determine population growth?
- Immigration
- Emmigration
- Birthrate
- Deathrate
What is the difference between immigration and emmigration?
Immigration = moving into a geographical area and emmigration = moving out.
Name the five limiting factors in a population.
- Predation
- Parasites & Diseases
- Competition
- Unusual Weather
- Natural Disasters
What is the difference between a density-dependent and density-independent limiting factor?
A density-dependent limiting factor is more of an issue as a population grows and gets bigger, but a density-independent limiting factor will damage regardless of the size of the population.
What are the three density-dependent limiting factors?
- Predation
- Parasites/Diseases
- Competition
What are the two density-independent limiting factors?
- Unusual Weather
2. Natural Disasters
What is exponential population growth?
It is a curved graph with an increasing slope and it happens when limiting factors aren’t present.
