What is a democracy
A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives
What are democracy values
Has values such as human rights, fundamental freedom, political equality and accountability
What is an example of political equality examples
1 person is 1 vote, universal suffrage, everyone can run for office

Freedom of speech, free media, elections

State 4 positive examples of a direct democracy
- more authentic

What are two negatives of a direct democracy
- if people get bored they may vote randomly
- finding a way for people to vote may be difficult depending on what platform is used
State a negative of representative democracy
- don’t always hear what people have to say
- the people voted into government may abuse their power and become corrupt
What are the positives of a represntiative democracy
- more informed
- more professional
- division of labour
- keeping controversial decisions away from public
What is the main difference between a direct and representative democracy
People make decisions e.g. referendum but in a representatives democracy people chose(elect) representatives to take decisions.
