Describe the pathophysiology for Lewy body dementia
A
- Alpha-synuclein aggregates
to form Lewy bodies deposits within neurons - Lewy body are found in the
substantia nigra and the
cortex.

What are symptoms of Lewy body dementia?
A
- Visual hallucinations
- Problems with REM sleep
- Cognitive fluctuations
- Prominent executive dysfunction
- Parkinsonism following the onset of dementia

How is Lewy body dementia diagnosed?
A
Usually a clinical diagnosis

How do you treat Lewy body dementia?
A
Acetylcholinesterase
inhibitors (e.g. donepezil,
rivastigmine) and memantine can be used as they are in Alzheimer’s.
