capgras syndrome
delusion of misidentification
a delusion that a familiar individual has been replaced by an impostor
‘think of grass wearing a cap – it is an imposter to the normal grass’
fregoli syndrome
a delusion that several people are actually just one person disguising themselves in different forms
‘think frog who kisses prince and is a different person in disguise’
Delusions of Grandeur/ Grandiose Delusions
Delusion of being of special status or significance, or of having special attributes
Delusions of Guilt
Delusion that they have committed a serious crime or sinned & deserve punishment
Nihilistic Delusions
Delusion of extreme negativity → that they no longer exist or are about to die
Cotard’s Syndrome
Delusion in which the subject believes they are already dead, do not exist or are putrefying or have lost blood/organs. Seen in extreme depression
Ekbom’s Syndrome
Delusion that ones skin is infested with parasites
Think of it as sounding like itchy bottom
Othello Syndrome
delusion that the subjects partner is being unfaithful. Commonly seen in men who kill their wives
De Clerambault’s syndrome
- Erotomania
- Delusional belief another famous, or higher social status person is in love with them
- Can’t declare love so it is via secret signs/communication
Think of it as de clerambault sounding famous
Folie à deux
- Induced delusional disorder
- Psychosis shared by two people in a close and dependent relationship – they share a delusion together
- If separated, the primary person won’t be cured but the secondary person will be
