Manner in which we speak. Mode we use to transmit words to our audience. Not what we say but how we say it
Rate
Speed at which we speak
Pitch
Vocal notes (high and lows of voice)

All words delivered methodically at same rate and pitch

Altering vocal tone or pitch to create emphasis
Volume
Loudness or softness of voice
Articulation
Distinctness with which we pronounce a word
Vocalized fillers
Meaningless saying (uhm, like, and, so)
Gestures
Use of hands, limbs, or body to send a message
Platform movement
Walking or stepping in a directed manner while speaking.
Material written word for word; material is primarily read
Manuscript

Speech not written word for word

Every word of speech is commuted to memory

Not rehearsed “spur of the moment”
Impromptu
Characteristics of a good voice
Quality- pleasant and friendly
Volume- don’t shout but speak loud (talk from your belly button)
Pitch- vary your pitch
Rate- a good rate is is 125-160wpm
