Acquired/infectious causes like a bladder catheter
What’s the clinical presentation of delirium?
Disturbance of consciousness, change in cognition
What’s the most common medication for Delirium?
Antipsychotic medications
Why are anti psychotic medications used with caution in patients of vascular risk factors?
Due to increased risk of stroke
What’s the most common cause of dementia?
Alzheimer’s disease
What does AD do to the brain?
Develops senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles
To treat AD, we give?
Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors amd NMDA antagonist
What acetylcholinesterase inhibitor do we prescribe?
Donepezil
What’s the side effects of Donepezil?
Weight loss, syncope, diarrhoea and nausea
What NMDA antagonist do we prescribe?
Memantine
What dosage do all both AD medications use
5mg orally once daily
What’s the prognosis of life expectancy of AD?
3-15 years
