- Can delegate only those tasks for which you are responsible.
- Empowers delegate to accomplish task.
- Delegate what you know best so you can provide guidance and feedback.
- Provide clear communication about your expectations regarding the task.

- Describe task using “I statements”
- State if delegatee needs to provide written and verbal report after the task is completed.
- If written report is needed, inform delegatee where to put the report.
- Identify what changes or incidents need to be brought to awareness.
- Tell delegatee how and how often tasks will be evaluated.
- Describe expected outcomes and timeline for completion of task.
- Identity variables that would change authority or responsibility.
- Obtain feedback from delegatee to make sure he or she understands task to be performed, ask for questions.
- Delegator must remain accessible during performance of task.
