What is delegated legislation?
When parliament passes an enabling act which gives the right to create a type of delegated legislation.
What are the 3 types of delegated legislation?
Orders in council, statutory instruments, ByLaws
What are orders in council?
Made by King and Privy Council. Allows laws to be made without parliament.
What are statutory instruments?
Made by government departments to make regulations for areas they are responsible for. They can amend or update laws.
How many statutory instruments are made each year?
Around 3000
What are ByLaws?
Made by local authorities. To create laws on local matters such as traffic control etc.
What act is bylaws under?
Local Government Act 1972
