Degeneration DL Flashcards
1
Q
A
Fatty Liver
(bad case)
-common with horses/ponies - lactation and heavily pregnant
diffuse- metabolic disease
can stain with oil red o or sudan orange/black (frozen sample)
2
Q
A
Renal Tubules (DCT) of lipodosis case
-large single vacuole
3
Q
A
Hyaline Degeneration!
- Can be caused by white muscle disease/ selenium deficiency
4
Q
A
- mucinous degeneration associated with a degenerative disease affecting the heart valves (commonly seen in dogs). Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
- Can tell it is the heart valve (endocardiosis)- don’t confuse with endocarditis
- Valves are mishapen and do not close properly
- Jet lesions
- Gross appearance: can get oedema in lungs and nutmeg liver!
5
Q
A
- nutmeg liver and pulmonary oedema caused by the cardiac issue (congestion and stasis) cause by flimsy mitral valve
- Start with LHS heart failure (oedema) and then result in RHS heart failure (nutmeg liver due to stasis of venous blood)
6
Q
A
Renal Amyloidosis
- leading to protein loss via renal failure
- transudation of low protein fluid into body cavities and tissue spaces
