  1. Logging - has been replaced by selective logging - however this requires road construction to take away the dead trees

  3. Energy development - Bakun Dam started to generate elec which they use
  4. Population pressure - government encourages people to move out to TRF
  5. Commercial farming - orangutans are becoming exctinct because of palm oil

Impacts of deforestation

  1. Soil erosion - soil can become dry and useless
  2. Loss of biodiversity - eg orangutans and becoming extinct- this reduces tourism
  3. Contribution to climate change - c02 released into environment, greenhouse gases are released which leads to global warming
