Definitions Week 2 Flashcards
What is job analysis?
Systematic study of a job to discover its specifications, skill requirements, and so on, for wage-setting, recruitment, training, or job- design purposes.
What is the difference between a job and a position?
A job is a group of related tasks and duties. A job can be held by one person, or a job can be held by many people. A position is a collection of tasks and responsibilities performed by an individual. In a department with one supervisor, three animators, and twelve programmers, there are sixteen positions, but only three jobs.
Step 1: Preparation. This includes becoming familiar with the organization and its jobs, determining the use of job analysis, and identifying what jobs need to be analyzed. Step 2: Collection of job information. This includes determining the sources of job data, identifying the data required, and choosing a method for data collection. The most common uses of job analysis information are in the recruitment process, the design of performance appraisal, and Step 3: Use of job information for improving organizational effectiveness. This includes job description, job specification, job performance standards, job redesign, designing Human Resources Information Systems, changing HR systems such as compensation, and organization change such as redesigning workflow in a plant. The jobs that we do the job analysis for will be jobs that are difficult to complete or valuable to the organization. That is because job analysis is often costly.
