VEHICLE
is a mechanically propelled vehicle or anything (whether or not it is a vehicle) that has been, but ceased to be, a mechanically propelled vehicle.
MECHANICALLY PROPELLED VEHICLE
Mechanically propelled means that the vehicle is powered by a motor (driven by electricity, petrol, diesel, or other fuels). The meaning is not defined by any Act of Parliament, so whether a particular vehicle is mechanically propelled vehicle is therefore a question is therefore a question of fact for a court to decide.
MOTOR VEHICLE
This is a mechanically propelled vehicle that is intended or adapted for use on the roads (s 185 of the Road Traffic Act 1988)
MOTOR BICYCLE
This is a motor vehicle which has two wheels and a maximum design speed exceeding 45kph. If powered by an internal combustion engine, the cylinder capacity must exceed 50cc.
BICYCLE
This includes a ‘motor bicycle’ (i.e. a motorcycle) for the purpose of vehicle excise duty
MOPED
a moped is a motor vehicle with three and fewer wheels and maximum design speed of 50 mph (This covers electric-powered two-wheelers). If propelled by an engine, the cylinder capacity must not exceed 50 cc
PEDAL CYCLE
This must be designed so it can be propelled by pedals and includes electrically assisted pedal cycles.
CARRIAGE
This means a motor vehicle or trailer (s 191 of the Road Traffic Act 1988)
CONVEYANCE
This is a vehicle constructed and adapted for transporting person(s) by land, water, or air.
A TRAILER
A vehicle drawn by a motor vehicle.
A motor vehicle can also be a trailer when being towed
