Nuclear family
2 generations
Geographically mobile

Loose knit - independent (solves issues wihtout help from ex/family)
Extended family
3 or more generations
Geographically static
Live within 1 mile of other kin
Close knit - dependent on kin for help
Modified extended family
Nuclear family but with extended family traits (keeps in contact with ex/f via phone/car)
Often called motorised or telephonic family
Reconstituted family
These are families which are the result of divorcees from relationships wiht new families (step families)
Cohabitaion
Living with people who are not family (friends) or with someone who youre not in a relationship with
Boomerang family
The children leave the home and then return later in life
Beanpole family
This is where elderly family members live longer and have fewer children and these children will themselves have few children when they become adults
Monogamy
Where individuals are married to one partner at one moment in time
Polygamy
Being married to more than one partner at any one time
Polyandry
A female married to more than one male
Polygyny
A male married to more than one female
