Definitions of Approach Flashcards
Cutting through the skin or mucous membrane and any other body layers necessary to expose the site of the procedure and having to use sutures afterwards
Open
Entry, by puncture or minor incision, of instrumentation through the skin or mucous membrane and any other body layers necessary to reach the site of the procedure - by poking it through(nicking or using a needle/cathertor)
Percutaneous
Entry, by puncture or minor incision, of instrumentation through the skin or mucous membrane and any other body layers necessary to reach and visualize the site of the procedure - nicking the skin but also using a scope to perform procedure- visualization instrument being used
Percutaneous Endoscopic
Entry of instrumentation through a natural or artificial external opening to reach and visualize the site of the procedure - using a scope, but not nick the skin. They just go in through the mouth, nose, ear, or other natural (or artificial) orifice. visualization instrumentation being used to reach the procedure site.
Via Natural or Artificial Opening Endoscopic
Entry of instrumentation through a natural or artificial external opening and entry, by puncture or minor incision, of instrumentation through the skin or mucous membrane and any other body layers necessary to aid in the performance of the procedure. Nonvisualization instrumentation being used to reach the operative site.
Via Natural or Artificial Opening With Percutaneous Endoscopic Assistance
Procedures performed directly on the skin or mucous membrane and procedures performed indirectly by the application of external force through the skin or mucous membrane. Procedure on structures that you can see without having to use any other type of aid
External
Entry of instrumentation through a natural or artificial external opening to reach the site of the procedure - nonvizualized instrument being used
Via Natural or Artificial Opening
