A scroll containing the Laws of God, revealed to Moses and recorded in the 1st 5 books of the Jewish scriptures.
The Torah
A large collection of writings, containing a full account of the civil and religious laws of the Jews.
The Talmud
The three Jewish divisions of The Old Testament, containing The Law of the Torah and two others.
Tenach
A Jewish ritual pointer- known as the Torah pointer. It is used by the reader to follow the text in the Torah.
The Yad
A cloth, typically embroidered and decorated. It is used to cover the Torah and to protect it.
The Mantle
A Jewish holiday that celebrates the conclusion of the annual cycle of Public Torah readings. It’s also the beginning of a new cycle.
Simchat Torah
Relating to or denoting Hasidism, a mystical Jewish movement.
Hasidic Jews
Non-religious Jews? Not sure if right definition!
Secular Jews
A fringed garment traditionally worn by religious Jews.
Tallit
A skullcap worn by Orthodox male Jews.
Kippah
A set of small black leather boxes containing scrolls of parchment inscribed with verses from the Torah.
Tefillin
A Hebrew text consisting of three passages from the Pentateuch and others. It is used as a Jewish confession of faith.
