INTENT
A person does something “intentionally” if they mean to do it; they desire a specific result and act with the aim or purpose of achieving it.
GREVIOUS BODILY HARM
Grievous bodily harm can be defined simply as “harm that is really serious.”
PERSON
Proven by judicial notice or by circumstantial evidence. Gender Neutral.
MAIMS
to cause serious bodily injury so that a person is deprived of the use of any bodily member or sense. There must be a permanent weakness. mere disfigurement is not enough.
DISFIGUREMENT
To deform or deface. Injury detracting from personal appearance.
WOUND R v WATERS
A wound is the breaking in the continuity of the skin with the flow of blood and can be external or internal.

FACILITATE
To make easier or less difficult or assist progress
AVOID DETECTION
Covers acts done by an offender to help themselves or another avoid being detected

INTENT – s 191
There are two intentions in this offence:
• The intention to cause harm and
• The intention to pursue one of the objectives specified in 1.2 (a), (b) or (c)

The offence the offender or another was fleeing from must be proved
STUPIFY R v STURM
to cause an effect on the mind or nervous system of a person, (which really seriously interferes with that person’s mental or physical ability to act in any way which might hinder an intended crime).
RENDERS UNCONCIOUS
Cause to be rendered unconscious. Temporary lack of consciousness
