Definitions Chap. 4 Flashcards
Multiplication
If a > b, then a + c > b + c
Addition
If a>b, then a+c>b+c
Transitive
If a > B and B > c, then a > c
Protractor postulate
For every angle A there corresponds a positive real number less than or equal to 180. This is symbolized 0 < m (<) A ( less than or equal to) 180
Continuity postulate
If k is a half-plane determined by (Ray) AC, then for every real number, 0<)BAC=x.
Slope of a line
A ratio obtained from two points of a line by dividing the difference in y coordinates by the the difference in x coordinates
Adjacent angles
Are two coplanar angles that have a common side and a common vertex but no common interior points
Perpendicular lines
Lines that intersect to form right angles
Linear pair
A pair of adjacent angles whose noncommon sides form a straight angle ( are opposite rays)
Vertical angles
Angles adjacent to the same angle and forming linear pairs with it
Complementary
Two angles are complementary if the sum of their angle measures 90 degrees
Supplementary
Two angles are supplementary if the sum of their angle measures 180 degrees
Acute Triangle
A triangle with three acute angles
Right triangle
Is a triangle with a right angle
Obtuse triangle
Is a triangle with a obtuse angle
