What is the difference between a right, want and need?
Right – Something one is honored within the law
Want – Something one desires
Need – Something vital to or for an individual

An individual’s ability to control emotions and desires in difficult situations

focusing on the elements of care, support and treatment that matter most to a patient
what does consent mean?
to give permission, assent or approval to something

1) nodding their head
2) verbally saying ‘yes’
3) writing or typing ‘yes’
what is an independent advocate?
someone who helps people have a stronger voice and to have as much control as possible over their own lives
what is the process of an initial assessment?
first evaluation of a patient
what is the purpose of an initial assessment?
to identify any immediate threats to life
what is a care plan?
a document, guide or record detailing how an individuals care needs will be met
what is a care package?
a combination of people and services who work together to meet a clients needs
