Ethnocentrism
The belief that one’s cultures, values, beliefs, and behaviours are best, preferred, or superior.
Transcultural Nursing
Comparative study of cultures in order to understand similarities and differences across a human group.
Reframing/Repatterning
Actions or decisions that help clients change/modify their life ways for new approaches.
Cultural Care Accommodation (/negotiation)
Actions and decisions that help clients adapt to, or negotiate with others for beneficial and meaningful healthcare outcomes.

Gradual changes; one culture changing (in various degrees) to another, more dominant, culture.

Generalizing a conception of a group of people, resulting in conscious/unconscious categorization without regard for individual differences.
Racism
Attitudes and specific actions through which one group exercises power over another on the basis of skin colour and heritage. The effect is to marginalize and oppress and to sustain advantage over another.
Discrimination
The unjust/prejudice treatment (action) of different categories of people on the grounds of race, age, sex, and disability.
Encoding
Process of putting thoughts, emotions, and feelings into forms that others recognize.
