Definitions Flashcards
Qualitative descriptors
High, low, near, far, slow or fast
what is rotation around an internal axis?
rotation around an axis of the body (sagittal, transverse and frontal axis)
what is rotation about an external axis?
rotation around an external axis (a bar or gymnastic rings)
where is the CoG?
The position of the centre of gravity (CoG) is approx. at the same level as the hips but located centrally in the body
what will happen to a body in flight?
A body in flight will rotate about its CoG
how do you stabilise the body?
For a body to be stable, a vertical line from the centre of gravity must fall within the body’s support base
how does the CoG move?
The position of the CoG will change as body elements are moved (muscular hypertrophy or change in the distribution of mass around the body)
what is linear kinematics?
Linear kinematics deals with describing the motion of a body
what do we measure to determine motion?
we’ll want to measure the position of an object or participant and how that position changes with time
