Infancy
First year of life
Totally dependent on others, grows to begin walking and developing a unique personality
Moro reflex
When startled, throws out arms, spreads fingers, grabs with fingers and arms. Should be relatively equal in both sides
Palmar reflex
Place finger in palm, grasps it. Within a couple months, this merged with ability to release an object from hand
Rooting reflex
When touching the cheek when hungry, turns head towards the side touches
Sucking reflex
When lips are stroked, starts sucking. This works in conjunction with the rooting reflex
Bonding
Sense that their needs will be met. When hungry, is fed. When needs to be held, they are held
Trust vs mistrust
Like orderly, predictable environments. Develops anxiety and insecurity when environment is disorderly and irregular

Learns by building on what they already know
