Q

centric occlusion

A

centric occlusion \sĕn΄trĭk a-kloo΄zhen: the occlusion of opposing
teeth when the mandible is in centric relation; this may or may not
coincide with the maximal intercuspal position; comp, MAXIMAL
INTERCUSPAL POSITION

Q

centric relation

A

centric relation \sĕn΄trĭk rĭ-la΄shun: acronym is CR; a maxillomandibular
relationship, independent of tooth contact, in which
the condyles articulate in the anterior-superior position against the
posterior slopes of the articular eminences; in this position, the
mandible is restricted to a purely rotary movement; from this unstrained,
physiologic, maxillomandibular relationship, the patient
can make vertical, lateral or protrusive movements; it is a clinically
useful, repeatable reference position

A maxillo-mandibular relationship in which the condyles articulate with the thinnest avascular portion of the disc, with the complex in an anterior-superior relationship against the articular eminence.
Essentially, it is the most posterior position of the mandible at a given vertical dimension, that can be repeatable by the patient and reproducible by different clinicians.

Q

fibrous integration

A

fibrous integration \fı΄brus ĭn΄tĭ-gra΄shun: the presence of a layer
of intervening fibrous connective tissue between a dental implant
and the adjacent bone indicative of failed osseointegration

Q

osseointegration

A

osseointegration n: 1. the apparent direct attachment or connection
of osseous tissue to an inert, alloplastic material without
intervening fibrous connective tissue; 2. the process and resultant
apparent direct connection of an exogenous material’s surface and
the host bone tissues, without intervening fibrous connective tissue
present; 3. the interface between alloplastic materials and bone;
