Principle of Absolute Block
To prevent there being more than one train in a section of the same line at the same time.
Absolute Block section
The line between the last stop signal of one signal box and the home signal of the next signal box.
Intermediate Block section
The line between a section signal and an intermediate block home signal
Home signal
The first stop signal controlling the exit to an absolute block section
Section signal
The stop signal controlling the entrance to an absolute block or intermediate block section
Intermediate block home signal
The stop signal controlling the exit from an intermediate block section
Station limits
The line between a home signal and a section signal
Clearing point
The point beyond the home signal up to which the line must be clear before another train can be accepted
