What is a variable?
Anything that is open to change.
What is an independent variable?
Something that can be changed by the researcher.
What is a dependent variable?
Something that is measured.
What is a control/extraneous variable?
Something that can affect the dependent variable.
What is a lab experiment?
An experiment carried out in a controlled environment.
What is a field experiment?
An experiment where you can control the independent variable but not the extraneous variables.
What is a natural experiment?
When the independent variable is not manipulated by the researcher.
What is an experimental design?
How participants are allocated to different groups.
What is the repeated measures design?
When you use the same participant over and over again.
What is matched pairs design?
When a match is based on their characteristics.
What is the independent groups design?
When there is one condition for each group.
What is a target population?
A small group of people that you want to study.
What is a sample?
People that represent the target population.
What are self-report methods?
Asking a participant about their feelings, beliefs and attitudes.
What is social desirability bias?
When people lie to look better to the researcher.
