What is a noun?
A noun is a word which refers to/ identifies a person, place or thing.
E.g. Maggie, table, education

Define proper noun.
A proper noun is one which is used to refer to one person, thing or idea.
E.g. Maggie, Manchester
Define abstract noun.
An abstract noun is one which you cannot identify using the 5 senses. So you cannot smell, touch, see, hear or taste these. These are usually emotions, ideas, beliefs, states of being or concepts. They can affect our lives but do not affect us directly/ physically
E.g. love, hate, eduction, safety.
Define concrete noun.
A concrete noun is one which you can identify using your 5 senses. These are objects/ things you can hear, smell, see, taste and touch.
E.g. burger, table, students
Define countable noun.
A countable noun is one which can be counted/ can have a quantity added to it. Usually follows the word ‘a’ or ‘an’ or an actual number.
E.g. a table, two boxes
Define uncountable noun.
An uncountable noun is one which cannot be counted/ cannot have a quantity added to it. Uncountable nouns do not have a plural form.
E.g. rice, bread, water
Define plural noun.
A plural noun is one which does not have a singular form. Used to talk about multiples of things.
E.g. trousers, scissors
Define collective noun.
Collective nouns refer to groups of people, animals or things.
E.g. gaggle of geese, band of men
Define possessive noun.
This type of noun displays possession over something else. Usually use apostrophes.
E.g. Tony’s car, The dog’s tail, James’ baby
What is the collective noun for crows?
Murder of crows.
What is the collective noun for hippos?
Bloat of hippos.
What is the collective noun for owls?
Parliament of owls.
What is the collective noun for ponies?
String of ponies.

Band of men.
