Definitions Flashcards
What is embedded generation?
Embedded generation is power supplied to the distribution network, increasing renewable generation (wind farms) has seen a changing shape of the transmission network.
What is a microgrid?
An area of network that has the potential to operate as a component of a larger network and autonomously, usually comprising generation, storage and the ability to manage loads.
What is a smartgrid?
An electricity network that can intelligently integrate the actions of all the users connected to it. Generators, consumers and those that do both. Matching supply and demand is still required.
What is demand management?
The ability to modulate the demand to a greater extent than is currently possible.
What are power system paradigms?
A typical example of power systems are: gas turbines; nuclear power stations and more recently micro generation; renewables.
New technologies emerging are the likes of smart grids, electric vehicles, demand management and responsive management.
