Define Genre
A media commodity. Has characteristic features known to and recognised by audiences due to repetition of same formula (known as repertoire of elements).
Define Narrative
The way the different elements in a story are organised to make a meaningful story. Some elements can be facts as in a documentary, or characters and action as in a drama.
Define representation
The ways in which the media portrays particular groups, communities, experiences, ideas, or topics from a particular ideological or value perspective.
Define audience positioning and response
To make lots of money – the media industry want the audience to respond positively not negatively.
Define audience appeal and targeting
Targeted through demographics (details to do with a group of people i.e. age, gender and race) and psychographics (details to do with specific people i.e. attitudes, values, emotional responses).

Industry wants to make maximum profit through their products therefore they will attempt to saturate the market with awareness and accessibility of the product, whenever there is something new.
