What is a Server?
The device which the communication medium communicates with, it provides data and functionality for clients
What is a client?
A client is a piece of computer hardware or software that accesses a service made available by a server.
What is a communication medium?
The physical hardware, often a cable or wire, used to transfer data to a server. This can be guided (cables, fibre optic, coaxial) or unguided (wireless).
What is a Network Adapter?
Provides the interface between a computer and a network. Provides wired and wireless connectivity.
What is Router or Wireless Access Point?
A networking device that forwards data between computer networks, provides connectivity between devices, allows internet connection to be available to all users.
What are Network Resources?
Peripheral devices such as printers and fax can be shared to give access to all network users. Sharing recourses reduces cost.
What is a user?
The operator using the network, a person that uses a client to access resources on a network.
What are protocols?
A set of rules that control the communication process.
