Electric Currents
An electric current consists of a flow of charged particles.
The magnitude of the current in the circuit is equal to the rate of flow of charge through the circuit
Charge
The charge Q which flows past a point in time t if there is a steady current (I) flowing is given by the equation Q=it
The coulomb
It is defined as the quantity of charge which passes a conductor in 1s when a current of 1A is flowing
E.m.f
It is defined as the energy dissipated by a source in driving unit charge round a complete circuit
P.d
P.d between two points in a circuit is defined as the energy dissipated per unit charge flowing between two points
Resistance
It is the property of a conductor which limits the current flow
The ohm
Is defined as the resistance of a conductor which a current of 1A is flowing and p.d across it is 1V
Ohm’s Law
The current through an ohmic conductor is directly proportional to the p.d across it provided that physical conditions are kept constant
