Definitions Flashcards
Observation
Method of measurement that requires judgement and behaviour to be recorded
Confederate a
Stooges that work with the experimenter unknown to the participant
Mundane realism
Set up of an investigation, making it more realistic giving it more ecological validity
Demand characteristic
Participant guess the aim and act up to it, causing a problem with the internal validity
Single blind control
Participants are lied to or not told the true aim of the story (deceived) in order to prevent demand characterises
Extrapolation
When theories or research is carried out on animals and hen generalised to humans as if they were the same
Correlation
An analysis which shows a link between 2 co variables in dictating the direction of the relation but not the cause
Gender bias
Too male or too female
Laboratory
Highly controlled artificial setting
Aim
Statement of the study’s purpose explaining why the study is being carried out
Hypothesis
Clear predictable statement of exactly what is going to be tested by the researchers
Operationalise the variables
Specifically defining the levels of the variables so they can be easily measured eg volume what is loud ? Defining that volume 50 is loud and 10 is not loud etc
