Define pitch
The register of a tone produced by a single frequency
Define melody
The succession of music tones that has an identifiable shape and meaning
Define harmony
pitches heard simultaneously

Define monophonic
Music with only one note sounding at a time (having no harmony or accompaniment)
Define homophonic

Music with two or more independent melodies sounding at the same time.

A special type of polyphonic texture produced whenever a musical idea is echoed from “voice” to “voice” (Renaissance and Baroque)

One who merely hears music as a pleasant auditory impressiion and attaches no significance to the whole composition
Define active listening
One who listens musically. One who can directly relate to the elements of music and who is able to appreciate music for the sake of music

A return to tribal, or primitive action through artistic representation of such themes
Define Nationalism
Strong patriotism and pirde in one’s nation. Music reflects folklore and mythology, along with claiming specific attributes of a specific area or region
