Development
a process where humans modify the natural environment to meet their own economic and or social needs e.g. a new factory in town brings jobs but can pollute

is the series of processes by which carbon compounds are interconverted in the environment, involving the incorporation of carbon dioxide into living tissue by photosynthesis and its return to the atmosphere through respiration, the decay of dead organisms, and the burning of fossil fuels
Biosphere
is defined as the area of the planet where organisms live, including the ground and the air
Hydrosphere
is all the waters on the earth’s surface, such as lakes and seas, and sometimes including water over the earth’s surface, such as clouds
Service Function
Is the capacity of the environment to provide the habitat for all living beings including mankind
Dredging
Is the act of removing silt and other material from the bottom of bodies of water
Longshore Drift
Is the movement of material along a coast by waves which approach at an angle to the shore but recede directly away from it.
