Definitions Flashcards
Real Numbers
all rational and irrational numbers
Rational Numbers
numbers that can be written as a ratio of two integers
Irrational Numbers
non-repeating, non-terminating decimals; can’t be written as a ratio of two integers
Integers
{…, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, …}
Whole Numbers
{0, 1, 2, 3, …}
Natural Numbers
{1, 2, 3, 4, …}
Common Fraction
a fraction in lowest terms
Equation of a Line
Standard form:Ax+By=C with slope =A\B
Slope-intercept form:y=mx+b with slope =m and y-intercept =b
Regular Polygon
a convex polygon with all equal sides and all equal angles
Negative Exponents
x^-n=1\x^n 1/x^-n= x^n
Systems of Equations
x+y=10 x=8
x-y=6
2x=16
Mean
Arithmetic Mean = Average
Mode
the number(s) occurring the most often; there may be more than one
Median
the middle number when written from least to greatest
If there is an even number of terms, the median is the average of the two middle terms.
Range
the difference between the greatest and least values
