Apostolic succession
The unbroken passing of the mission and authority of the apostles to their successors, the bishops
Annunciation
The angel Gabriel’s announcement to the Virgin Mary that she was to be the mother of God
Assumption
The teaching that when the Virgin Mary’s earthly life ended and she was taken up body and soul into heaven
Atheism
Not believing in God; denying God
Blasphemy
A word, thought, or action that shows scorn for God or the church or persons dedicated to God
Blessed Trinity

Covenant
In the scriptures, a sacred agreement between God and his people
Divine revelation
God’s gift of making himself known to us and giving himself to us by gradually communicating his own mystery on words and deeds
Evangelization
The proclamation of the good news of Jesus and the love of God through word and witness
Faith
A gift from God that enables us to believe in him and all that he has revealed
Free will
The freedom God gives us to choose between good and evil
Grace
God’s loving presence in our lives, given to us freely, to perfect our human freedom
Immaculate conception
The truth that Mary was free from original sin and all sin from the moment she was conceived
Incarnation
The mystery of Jesus Christ, the divine son of God, becoming man
Infallibility
The gift given by the Holy Spirit to the Pope and the bishops in union with him to teach on matters of faith and morals without error
