Constitution
A set of basic principles and laws that states the powers and duties of the government
Suffrage
The right to vote. Allowed any white man who paid taxes to vote. In every state, however, only land owners could hold public office
Ratification
Official approval, usually by vote
Tariffs
Taxes on imported goods used to protect domestic industries and generate revenue for the government
Inflation
When there are increased prices for goods and services combined w/ the reduced value of money
Depression
A period of low economic activity combined w/ a rise in unemployment
Bicameral
A legislature with TWO HOUSES or chambers (eg., Congress w/ Senate & House of Representatives)
Unicameral
A legislature with ONE HOUSE or chamber (eg., Nebraska’s state legislature)
Antifederalists
People who opposed the Constitution. Thought the Constitutional Convention shouldn’t have created a new gov.

Supporters of the Constitution
Sovereignty
Supreme power or authority
Proportional Representation
The number of representations is based upon the population
