How is ball location determined?
The ball is in the frontcourt or backcourt based on the location of the ball, not the player’s feet.

The ball is inbounds or out of bounds based on its contact with the floor or an object.
What is basket interference?

When does a player become closely guarded?
A player holding or dribbling the ball in the frontcourt is closely guarded when an opponent is within 6 feet.

When is a player in control of the ball?
A player is in control when holding or dribbling a live ball inbounds.
When is a team in control of the ball?

Team control does not exist during a jump ball, tapping a rebound, or when the ball is in flight during a try for goal.

What is a held ball?
A held ball occurs when opponents have hands on the ball so firmly that neither can gain control, or a player places their hand(s) on the ball while it is on the floor, preventing an opponent from getting it.
